New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday chaired a high-level review meeting to finalize preparations for the citywide cleanliness campaign, scheduled to run from August 1 to 31. She directed officials to devise a concrete action plan to ensure the effective and coordinated implementation of the drive.
The meeting was attended by Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood, senior officials from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), and representatives from all relevant departments.
Titled “Delhi’s Freedom from Garbage – Cleanliness Drive,” the campaign aims to involve all sections of society, including government departments, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market associations, schools, and other institutions.
A dedicated online portal will be launched to boost public engagement, where residents can upload “before and after” photos of cleaned areas, highlighting their contribution.
Multi-Agency Coordination Key to Success
CM Gupta emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination, instructing active involvement from agencies such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The campaign will pay special attention to slum clusters, unauthorised colonies, and informal settlements, aiming to significantly enhance waste collection and sanitation in these vulnerable areas.
Special Clean-Up Drives Every Weekend
The month-long initiative will include targeted clean-up drives every Saturday and Sunday, covering public areas such as government offices, hospitals, markets, bus terminals, and industrial hubs.
Elected Representatives to Join Hands
Ministers, MLAs, MPs, and municipal councillors will also be actively involved in the campaign. Appealing to the citizens of Delhi, CM Gupta stressed that the success of the drive depends on individual responsibility.
She said, “Cleanliness is not just a government responsibility—it’s a civic duty. By participating, every citizen will contribute to freeing Delhi from garbage and support the larger vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who believes a truly clean nation requires active involvement from each of us.”
The campaign seeks to foster a culture of cleanliness, civic pride, and sustainable waste management practices throughout the city.
