Delhi Journalists Association organizes Ceremony on the 54th Foundation Day of NUJI

National Union of Journalists (India) Announces Formation of Journalists Protection Forum

New Delhi: January 23, 2026 On the occasion of the 54th Foundation Day of the National Union of Journalists (India), the Delhi Journalists Association organised a ceremonial programme at its office located at 7, Jantar Mantar Road, New Delhi. On the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami, a Saraswati Puja was also performed at the office. A seminar was organised during the event, focusing on the challenges faced by the media.

During the seminar, Ras Bihari, National President of the National Union of Journalists (India), member, International Federation of Journalists, announced the formation of the Journalists Protection Forum. The forum will function under the guidance of NUJ (India) and the aegis of the Journalists Welfare Foundation, with the objective of protecting the interests and rights of journalists across the country.

Addressing the gathering, NUJ President Ras Bihari said that journalists are currently facing numerous new challenges. The nature and platforms of journalism are changing rapidly. However, there is no specific law in place to protect journalists’ interests, which has led to an increase in incidents against journalists nationwide. In this context, the Journalists Protection Forum will work to review the challenges faced by journalists and seek solutions to address them.

The seminar was chaired by Rakesh Thapliyal, President of the Delhi Journalists Association. Speakers at the seminar included Dadhibal Yadav, Chairman of the NUJI Election Commission; Pramod Kumar Singh, General Secretary of the Delhi Journalists Association; former DJA President Manohar Singh; NUJ Secretary Amlesh Raju; Convenor of the NUJ Women Journalists Wing Mrs. Pratibha Shukla; and DJA Secretary Priyaranjan, among others.

On this occasion, NUJI President Ras Bihari and DJA President Rakesh Thapliyal honoured former organisation Secretary Hirendra Rathore, senior member Atul Mishra, Pradeep Srivastava, Alok Mohan Nayak, Amit Kumar Gaur, Dr. Ashok Barthwal, Manthan Ram Mankad, Kundan Pandey, Sagir Ahmed, Fazle Gufran, Amar Anand, Biranchi Singh, Sharad Mishra, and Parul Srivastava by presenting them with shawls and pens.
