Incident at Delhi Airport: Fire Erupts in Air India Aircraft Right After Landing

National Desk: A fire incident was reported at Delhi Airport on Tuesday involving an Air India flight. The flight number AI-315, arriving from Hong Kong to Delhi, caught fire in its Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) immediately after landing. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated.

Fire Broke Out Right After Landing

According to an Air India spokesperson, the incident occurred when flight AI-315, arriving from Hong Kong, had just reached the gate and passengers had begun to deboard. Suddenly, a fire broke out in the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). However, the APU shut down automatically as per the system’s design, which helped prevent a major mishap.

Minor Damage to the Aircraft

In a statement issued by Air India, it was mentioned that the fire caused some minor damage to the aircraft. Despite this, all passengers and crew members disembarked safely without any injuries. The aircraft has now been grounded for further technical inspection, and the incident has been reported to the regulatory authorities.

What is an APU?

The APU, or Auxiliary Power Unit, is a small gas turbine engine located at the tail of the aircraft. It supplies power and electricity to the aircraft without relying on the main engines or external power sources. During flight, the APU produces compressed air used to start the main engines. The fire reportedly occurred in this section of the aircraft.
