Earthquake Alert: Strong Tremors Felt in Delhi-NCR Early Morning, Epicenter in Faridabad

National Desk: Once again, tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning, shaking the region and triggering concern among residents. The earthquake struck around 6:00 AM with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter was in Faridabad, Haryana. Fortunately, there have been no reports of damage to life or property.

Earthquake Details from NCS

The National Center for Seismology posted on X (formerly Twitter) stating: “A 3.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at 6:00 AM on July 22, 2025. The epicenter was located in Faridabad at a depth of 5 kilometers, at coordinates 28.29°N latitude and 72.21°E longitude.”

Tremors Reported Last Week Too

This is not the first time Delhi-NCR has experienced seismic activity recently. Just last week, a 2.5 magnitude earthquake hit Jhajjar, Haryana, also at a depth of 5 kilometers. The coordinates for that quake were 28.64°N latitude and 76.75°E longitude.

Earlier this month, on July 10 and 11, Jhajjar experienced two stronger quakes with magnitudes of 4.4 and 3.7, respectively. Those tremors were felt across Delhi, Gurugram, Rohtak, Noida, and other parts of the NCR. Though none of these quakes have caused significant damage, the increasing frequency has raised public anxiety.

Why Is Delhi-NCR Prone to Earthquakes?

Seismologists explain that the Earth’s surface is made up of seven major and several minor tectonic plates. These plates are constantly in motion and often collide with each other. The collision can cause stress to build up along plate boundaries, leading to fractures and sudden energy release, which we feel as earthquakes.
Delhi-NCR lies near the boundary of these tectonic plates, making it a seismically active and earthquake-prone region.

What to Do During an Earthquake:

If you are indoors:

  • Take shelter under a sturdy table or furniture.
  • Stay away from windows, mirrors, and heavy objects.
  • Turn off electrical switches to avoid short circuits or fires.

If you are outdoors:

  • Move to an open area away from buildings, trees, and streetlights.
  • Protect your head and avoid using elevators.

Delhi-NCR being in a seismically sensitive zone, it’s crucial for residents to remain alert and be prepared for future earthquakes.
