National Desk: Ahead of Durga Puja, the West Bengal government has given a big festive relief to its employees and pensioners. The Finance Department has announced that salaries for the month of September will be released early, on 24 and 25 September. Following this, government offices will remain closed from 26 September to 7 October for the festive holidays. This decision will ease financial stress for employees and their families during the festive preparations.
Advance Salary Payment Schedule
The state government clarified that not only regular salaries but also wages, honorariums, remuneration, and stipends will be paid during this early disbursement. Retired employees and pensioners will also benefit, as pensions will be credited on 1 October.
Financial Support During Festivals
On 1 October (Mahanavami), along with pensions, beneficiaries of social welfare schemes like ‘Jai Bangla’ and ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ will also receive their dues. This timely financial assistance is expected to bring significant relief to families and enhance festive celebrations.
Dearness Allowance (DA) Issue Still Pending
However, uncertainty continues over the issue of Dearness Allowance (DA). The matter is still pending in the Supreme Court. According to Vikasranjan Bhattacharya, lawyer for the Confederation of State Government Employees, a verdict is expected later this year, but not before Durga Puja.
Employees Welcome the Move
Despite the unresolved DA dispute, the announcement of timely salary and pension payments has brought cheer and relief among employees. Many expressed that receiving salaries ahead of time strengthens their financial stability and boosts their morale during the festival.
GST Relief from 22 September
Additionally, the government has announced changes in GST rates effective from 22 September, which will make essential commodities cheaper. This move will further support household budgets and festive shopping.
