Bank Holiday 2026: With the festival of Holi falling in the first week of March, banks and schools across several parts of India will observe holidays on different dates. The holidays will be spread between February 28 and March 4, depending on the state and local celebrations. Customers planning bank-related work may face inconvenience during this period.

Bank Holiday Schedule

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar:

  • February 28: Banks across the country will remain closed due to the fourth Saturday of the month.
  • March 1: Weekly holiday on account of Sunday.
  • March 2 (Holika Dahan): Banks will remain closed in cities such as Lucknow and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, while banking operations will continue normally in most other parts of the country.
  • March 3 (Dhulandi/Dol Jatra): Banks will remain completely closed in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Jaipur, and Kolkata.
  • March 4 (Main Holi Festival): Banks will be closed in most parts of the country, including Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Ranchi.

Four-Day Holiday for Schools

Students will also benefit from an extended break, as most schools across the country are expected to remain closed from March 1 to March 4 due to Sunday and Holi-related celebrations, including Holika Dahan and the festival of colours.

Digital Banking Services to Remain Available

Although bank branches will remain closed on these dates, customers can continue transactions through net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services, which will operate round the clock. ATM services will also remain available for cash withdrawals.
