Anand Vihar Namo Bharat Station Makes History: NCRTC Receives IGBC Platinum Rating

East Delhi: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has achieved a remarkable milestone, as its Anand Vihar Namo Bharat underground station has been awarded the Platinum Rating by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). This is the highest category of certification under the Green Building framework, recognizing the station’s environment-friendly design and sustainable construction practices.

Under the Namo Bharat project, NCRTC has registered all its major facilities — including depots, stations, and receiving substations — with IGBC for green certification. The project was evaluated across six key categories: site selection, water and energy efficiency, material conservation, indoor environmental quality, and innovation.

Thanks to its outstanding performance in all these areas, Anand Vihar station earned the prestigious Platinum distinction. During construction, NCRTC prioritized low-carbon technologies, energy-efficient systems, rainwater harvesting, and natural ventilation. Additionally, green landscaping under the viaduct has been developed to further reduce the carbon footprint.

According to NCRTC officials, the corporation aims to meet about 70% of its total energy requirements through renewable sources. To achieve this, a 15 MW solar power generation plan has been initiated — of which 4.7 MW is already operational.

This achievement highlights NCRTC’s strong commitment to sustainability and its vision to create a modern, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient rapid rail network in the National Capital Region.
