New Delhi: The Builders Association of India (BAI) organized its Annual Business Meet today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, where it demanded that the Government of India create a separate ministry dedicated to the construction sector. It is expected that such a ministry would help resolve the issues faced by both builders and consumers.

During the event, a conference was held on the topic “New Labour Codes and Their Impact on the Construction Sector.” Speakers shared their views on the effects of the four new labour codes proposed by the Government of India.

Former Labour Commissioner of the Government of India, Dr. Omkar Sharma, addressed the conference as the keynote speaker. He spoke about the advantages and disadvantages that workers and labourers may experience after the implementation of the new labour laws. He also discussed their impact on stakeholders in the construction sector.

North BAI IMM Vice President Rajeev Goyal expressed hope that once the new laws are implemented, companies associated with the construction business will be able to provide better facilities and benefits to their employees.

Delhi Government Deputy Labour Commissioner Shashi Bhushan and Advocate Jitesh Pandey, Managing Partner of LEX Alliance, also shared their views during the seminar.

The technical session covered important issues such as:

Code on Industrial Relations

Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code

Code on Wages

Key changes in legal provisions

Impact of labour codes on workforce classification

Dr. Rati Singh Phogat, Joint Labour Commissioner of the Delhi Government, elaborated on compliance requirements and workforce classification under the four new labour laws.

The program was moderated by Supreme Court advocate Dr. Shuchi Bharti.

Among those present at the event were Haryana BAI State Chairman Prem Khamesra, former BAI President Ram Niwas Gupta, North BAI Vice President Ram Avtar, Lal Chand Sharma (Trustee), Amit Pasricha (Delhi State Chairman, BAI), and Ved Khurana (Former Chairman Delhi and Chairman, CPWD & PSU Coordination Committee), among others.
