Big Announcement by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for Chhath Puja – Devotees to Get These Special Facilities at Ghats

National Desk: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made a major announcement on Wednesday during a press conference regarding preparations for Chhath Puja in the national capital. She said that the Delhi government is gearing up to celebrate the festival in a grand and elaborate manner this year.

CM Gupta mentioned that Chhath Puja has been traditionally celebrated on the banks of the Yamuna River, but the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had imposed restrictions on it. “Our government has now lifted the ban on celebrating Chhath Puja,” she declared.

Chhath Puja to Be Held at 17 Model Ghats

CM Gupta informed that robust arrangements are being made for this year’s Chhath Puja. Seventeen designated points have been identified along the Yamuna River—from Palla to Kalindi—where model ghats are being developed for devotees to comfortably perform the rituals.

She added that special facilities are being arranged for all devotees in the capital. Last year, Chhath Puja was organized at only 929 locations across Delhi, but this year, the government has already received applications for over 1,000 sites. The government will ensure all essential facilities at each of these locations.

Special Arrangements for Devotees

The Chief Minister stated, “Just as we celebrated Diwali grandly at Kartavya Path, Chhath Puja will be equally magnificent.”

The preparations include:

  • Construction of at least one model Chhath ghat in every district.
  • Welcome gates and cultural programs for devotees observing the fast.
  • Arrangement of tea and water for those offering morning prayers (arghya).
  • Availability of medical facilities at all ghats.

Old FIRs to Be Withdrawn

In another significant move, CM Rekha Gupta announced that all cases filed under Section 188 against devotees who celebrated Chhath Puja on the Yamuna in 2021 during the previous government’s tenure will now be withdrawn.

This decision, she said, reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that religious traditions are respected and celebrated freely in Delhi.
