Chinese Rocket or Something Else? – Mystery Surrounds ‘Streak of Fire’ Seen in Delhi-NCR Skies Late at Night

Digital Desk, New Delhi: On Friday late at night, residents across Delhi-NCR witnessed a dazzling streak of fire moving rapidly across the sky, sparking curiosity and speculation. Around 1:20 AM, people from Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, Aligarh, and even Jaipur reported seeing this mysterious sight.

Several eyewitnesses captured the phenomenon on their cameras and shared videos on social media, fueling debates and theories.

On X (formerly Twitter), discussions heated up over whether this was a meteor or the debris of a Chinese rocket. As of now, no official confirmation has been issued regarding the incident.

A user named “Grok” suggested that the bright streak could have been debris from the Chinese rocket CZ-3B, re-entering Earth’s atmosphere. This speculation was based on predictions about rocket debris, the relatively slower speed visible in videos, and its fragmentation into multiple pieces.

Meanwhile, some experts believe it might have been a bolide—a large meteor that explodes upon entering the atmosphere. However, the possibility of it being space debris is being given more weight.

Excitement and curiosity spread among people who witnessed the spectacle. The shared videos and posts on social media only deepened the mystery. Confirmation from scientists and officials is still awaited.

One X user wrote:
“A spectacular celestial event unfolded in New Delhi on Friday night when glowing debris lit up the skies, leaving residents stunned and sparking waves of excitement online.”

Another user shared:
“Around 1:25 AM, while returning from my office with a colleague, we saw a shower of meteors above Delhi skies near Bhikaji Cama Place. We stopped our scooter to record it. Still not sure whether it was a meteor shower or something else…”
