Delhi Turns Red Zone: Protest Erupts at India Gate Over Toxic Air

National Desk: The air quality in Delhi has hit alarming levels once again, pushing the city into a ‘Red Zone’ of toxic pollution. In most parts of the capital, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached around 400, placing it in the ‘Severe’ category. Residents are facing breathing difficulties, with hospitals reporting a rise in respiratory complaints.

Protest Against Pollution at India Gate

On Sunday evening, hundreds of people took to the streets to protest against the worsening air quality in Delhi. The protest saw participation from AAP, Congress, and several civil society groups. Marching towards India Gate, demonstrators demanded strong and long-term policies to combat air pollution and hold authorities accountable for the crisis.

Police Deny Permission at India Gate

The Delhi Police intervened, citing Supreme Court orders that prohibit demonstrations at India Gate. Officials reminded protestors that Jantar Mantar is the only authorized site for public gatherings. When protesters refused to disperse, several were detained for violating public order. Police urged them to move their protest to Jantar Mantar peacefully.

Citizens Demand Permanent Solutions

Protesters voiced frustration over the lack of effective measures, saying that temporary solutions like cloud seeding and water sprinkling have failed to make a real difference. “The air in Delhi has become poisonous, and we can’t even breathe freely,” said one participant, calling for a comprehensive action plan against pollution.

AAP Accuses BJP of Data Manipulation

AAP’s Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the BJP-led central government of “data manipulation,” alleging that air quality data is often hidden when pollution peaks. He claimed that this time, intellectuals and professionals have joined the protests, showing how serious the situation has become.

2 November330
3 November340

Experts warn that the rising pollution trend poses a grave health risk and could persist unless strict measures are implemented. Meanwhile, authorities are focused on maintaining law and order, but Delhi residents are demanding nothing less than clean air and long-term solutions.
