Development vs ‘Disruptive Elements’: Investors’ Interests at Risk in Wave City

Ghaziabad: The ongoing tension in the city’s high-tech township, Wave City, has recently escalated beyond a simple compensation dispute. It is now emerging as a serious challenge to development activities and law and order, with alleged disruptive elements repeatedly obstructing construction work in the project area.

According to the builder, all land acquisition processes required for the project were completed within the legal framework. Construction began only after receiving all necessary approvals and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Ghaziabad Development Authority and the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP-RERA). In such a situation, crowds gathering at the construction site and forcing work to stop is not only illegal but also undermines the official approvals granted by the authorities.

The builder management has alleged that some antisocial and disruptive elements are posing as “farmers” to serve their personal interests. They claim that unarmed employees deployed at the site have faced verbal abuse, physical assault, and even death threats. Such actions suggest that the protest is no longer democratic but has turned violent. An incident on February 14, in which more than 50 people allegedly attacked the site, has created a sense of insecurity among investors.

The biggest victims of this situation are thousands of middle-class homebuyers who have invested their life savings in these homes. Frequent interruptions in construction work increase project costs and delay possession. Residents say that if the administration fails to take strict action against these disruptive elements, people living in the area may face serious difficulties in the future.

People are demanding that the rule of law be enforced in the area. If anyone has grievances related to compensation, the matter should be resolved through courts or tribunals rather than through violence and intimidation at construction sites. The FIR registered by the police is being seen as an important step toward ensuring that the development process is not held hostage.
