National Desk:
A tragic incident in Sector-150 of Greater Noida has shaken the entire area. On Friday night, amid severe waterlogging, the car of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta got trapped in a water-filled pit, leading to his death by drowning. Nearly three days after the accident, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) recovered the submerged car from the water.
Severely Damaged Condition of the Submerged Car
The car retrieved by the NDRF was found to be in extremely poor condition due to prolonged submersion. The vehicle’s windows were broken, and the sunroof was completely damaged. It is suspected that the intense water pressure caused the glass to shatter. With the car now recovered, authorities will be able to determine whether any technical malfunction contributed to the accident. According to sources, preparations are underway for a forensic examination of the vehicle.
Postmortem Report Clarifies Cause of Death
The postmortem report has clearly established the cause of Yuvraj Mehta’s death. According to the report, he died due to asphyxiation (suffocation). Approximately 3.5 liters of water were found in his lungs, indicating that he remained submerged for a significant period.
Questions Raised Over Administrative Negligence
The incident has raised serious questions about the functioning of the local administration and the development authority. In response, the state government has removed Noida CEO Lokesh M from his position. On the Chief Minister’s instructions, a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct an impartial probe into the matter.
SIT Begins Probe, Report Sought Within Five Days
The SIT began its investigation on Tuesday. The team first visited the Noida Authority office, where it spent nearly two hours examining documents and questioning officials. After that, the team proceeded to the accident site. The SIT has been directed to submit its report within five days, based on which further action will be decided.
Builder Arrested, Police Continue Investigation
In connection with the case, the Knowledge Park police station has arrested Abhay Kumar, the owner and builder of MZ Viztown. Police are also investigating the extent of negligence related to waterlogging and safety arrangements in the Sector-150 area.
