Heavy Rain Alert: IMD Warns of Strong Winds and Rainfall Till February 11; Cold Conditions to Intensify in These States

National Desk: Weather conditions across Delhi and large parts of north India are set to change once again. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the activation of two successive western disturbances is likely to intensify cold conditions. Several states may witness rainfall, dense fog, and snowfall in hilly regions.

The IMD has issued an alert for significant weather changes over the next three days, warning that strong surface winds with speeds of 20–30 kmph may prevail across north-west India. A heavy rain alert has been issued in several regions till February 11.

Rain and Dense Fog Likely

As per the IMD, the impact of these western disturbances will bring rainfall to many states, while dense fog is expected in some areas. Delhi is likely to remain cloudy with chances of light rain, which may lead to a drop in temperatures and an increase in cold, damp conditions. Snowfall is expected in the hill states, while frost conditions may develop in parts of Uttarakhand. As a result, February could continue to witness wintry weather.

Impact From the Night of February 8

The weather department stated that one western disturbance is currently active over north-eastern Iran and adjoining Afghanistan. In addition, a jet stream with wind speeds of around 125 nautical miles per hour is flowing over eastern and north-eastern India. Another fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region from the night of February 8, leading to widespread changes in weather patterns across the country.

Rain and Snowfall Forecast for Hilly Regions

On February 7, dense fog is likely during morning and night hours in parts of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh. Between February 9 and 11, rainfall and snowfall are expected over the western Himalayan region. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to experience snow and rain during this period.

Alert Issued for Delhi and Several Districts

According to the IMD, strong surface winds blowing at 20–30 kmph are expected across north-west India over the next 2–3 days. A yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. Delhi has witnessed dense fog over the past few days, and now cloudy skies with chances of rain are expected to persist till February 11.
