IMD Weather Alert: Weather Pattern Changes After Holi; Heat to Rise in Plains, Rain and Snow Likely in Hills

National Desk: The weather across North India is changing rapidly after the Holi festival. While temperatures are steadily rising in the plains, hill regions may soon witness a shift in weather conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a weak Western Disturbance is expected to become active, which could bring light rainfall and snowfall in several hill states between March 7 and March 10.

Rain and Snow Alert in Hill States

As per IMD forecasts, weather conditions in northern mountainous regions will change over the next few days.

  • Himachal Pradesh: Light rainfall is expected between March 7 and March 10, with snowfall likely in higher altitude areas.
  • Uttarakhand: A yellow alert has been issued for some districts from March 8 to March 10 due to possible rainfall and snowfall.
  • Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh: Between March 7 and March 10, light rain and snowfall are likely in higher regions, with chances of thunder and lightning in some areas.

Hot and Humid Weather in Coastal Regions

The IMD said that western and southern parts of India may continue to experience hot and humid conditions.

  • Gujarat and the Konkan region are likely to remain warm and humid.
  • Coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh may also see an increase in humidity.
  • Due to a low-pressure system near the Gulf of Mannar, some areas may experience light rainfall.

Rising Temperatures in Delhi-NCR

Heat has already started increasing in the national capital region (Delhi-NCR).

According to the IMD forecast for March 6:

  • Sky: Clear with no chances of rainfall
  • Maximum temperature: 33–35°C
  • Minimum temperature: 15–17°C
  • Humidity: Between 40% and 80%
  • Wind speed: 10–25 km/h

Temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming days, making daytime conditions warmer.

Mercury Rising in Uttar Pradesh

Temperatures are also increasing across several districts in Uttar Pradesh. Cities like Agra, Mathura, Lucknow, and Kanpur may record maximum temperatures between 32°C and 35°C.

In Lucknow, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 32°C, while the minimum may remain near 17°C, with warmer afternoons.

Heat Intensifies in Rajasthan

Temperatures in Rajasthan are also being recorded above normal levels. According to the IMD Jaipur center, weather conditions are expected to remain dry for the next week.

  • Temperatures may rise by 2–3°C further.
  • In southwestern districts, the mercury could reach around 40°C between March 8 and March 10.

This increase is attributed to an anticyclonic system over the Arabian Sea.

Light Rain Expected in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, temperatures are likely to gradually increase over the next few days. However, rainfall over the weekend may bring some relief.

  • Western Ghats and southern coastal districts may experience light rainfall.
  • Scattered showers are possible until March 9, while moderate rainfall may occur in some areas on March 10.
