IMD Weather Forecast: Bone-Chilling Cold to Return in Delhi-NCR, People to Shiver for Next 7 Days; Alert Issued

National Desk: After the recent spell of rain, winter has once again tightened its grip on Delhi-NCR. The weather has taken a sudden turn, and residents may have to brace for an intense cold wave in the coming days. According to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold conditions are likely to persist across the capital and adjoining areas from January 24 to January 30.

The IMD has warned that dense fog may prevail during morning hours, while cloudy conditions could continue throughout the day. Cold winds blowing from the northwest are expected to intensify the chill, making the cold feel even more severe.

Temperature Outlook

As per IMD estimates, daytime temperatures are unlikely to see major fluctuations, but a sharp drop in night temperatures could cause discomfort.

  • Maximum temperature: Likely to remain between 18°C and 22°C
  • Minimum temperature: May drop to between 4°C and 13°C
  • January 25 and 26: Cold conditions are expected to be at their harshest
  • In some areas, minimum temperatures may fall below normal, further intensifying the cold wave

Rain and Fog Alert

The weather department has also predicted the possibility of light rain or drizzle on January 27, which could further enhance the cold conditions. From January 28 to 30, the weather may stabilize slightly, though cloud cover and light fog are likely to persist.

Dense fog during early mornings and late nights may reduce visibility, potentially affecting road, rail, and air traffic. The IMD has indicated that it may issue a yellow or orange alert for fog or cold wave conditions if required.

The IMD has advised people to remain cautious—wear warm clothing, exercise care while stepping out in foggy conditions, and drive carefully. Residents are urged to keep a close watch on official IMD updates, as weather conditions may change suddenly.
