National Desk: If you frequently travel long distances by train, this news is important for you. Indian Railways has once again announced an increase in ticket fares for Mail and Express trains. The revised fares will come into effect from December 26, 2025. Passengers traveling long distances will now have to pay slightly more for their journeys.
New Fare Structure
According to Indian Railways, there will be no change in fares for Ordinary Class passengers traveling up to 215 kilometers. However:
- For journeys beyond 215 kilometers, Ordinary Class fares will increase by 1 paise per kilometer.
- For Mail/Express trains, fares in Non-AC and AC classes will increase by 2 paise per kilometer.
Railways to Earn ₹600 Crore Extra
Railway officials estimate that this fare revision will generate around ₹600 crore in additional revenue. For instance, a passenger traveling 500 kilometers in a Non-AC train will now have to pay ₹10 more than before.
Revised Fares for Delhi–Patna and Delhi–Mumbai Routes
The distance between Delhi and Patna is approximately 1,000 kilometers. Currently, the Third AC fare on the DBRT Rajdhani Express is ₹2,395. After the fare hike, at the rate of 2 paise per kilometer, the ticket price will increase by ₹20, making the new fare ₹2,415.
The distance between Delhi and Mumbai is around 1,386 kilometers. At present, the Third AC fare on the CSMT Rajdhani Express is ₹3,180. Following the revision, the fare will rise by approximately ₹27, taking the total ticket cost to ₹3,207.
Second Fare Hike This Year
This is the second fare increase by Indian Railways in 2025. Earlier, in July, fares were increased by 1 paise per kilometer for Mail and Express trains and 2 paise per kilometer for AC classes. With this latest hike, long-distance train travel will become slightly more expensive, and passengers are advised to consider the revised fares while planning their journeys.
