New Delhi: On the occasion of Independence Day, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced a special tourist train under the Bharat Gaurav initiative. Titled “Swarnim Bharat Yatra”, this deluxe AC tourist train will offer travelers a unique 10-day journey to some of the most iconic historical and cultural landmarks associated with India’s freedom struggle and heritage.

A 10-Day Journey Through India’s Glorious Past

The tour spans nine nights and ten days, beginning on August 14 from Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi. This thoughtfully curated tour aims to provide an immersive experience of India’s rich cultural heritage and the milestones of its independence movement.

First Stop – Ahmedabad: Legacy of Mahatma Gandhi

The first destination of the journey will be Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Here, passengers will visit the Sabarmati Ashram, once home to Mahatma Gandhi and a key site in India’s freedom movement. Other attractions in the city include the Sabarmati Riverfront, a beautifully developed urban space along the river, along with visits to other notable landmarks.

Travelers will also explore the Sun Temple in Modhera, an exquisite example of ancient Indian architecture, and Rani ki Vav (Queen’s Stepwell) in Patan, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its intricate design and historical importance.

Exploring the Modern Symbol of Unity – Kevadia

After Ahmedabad, the train will move on to Kevadia, located on the banks of the Narmada River. The main highlight here is a visit to the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s Iron Man. This visit provides a blend of modern infrastructure and the enduring legacy of national integration.

Discovering the Spirit of Maharashtra – Pune and Bhimashankar

The next leg of the journey takes tourists to Pune, Maharashtra, where they’ll explore several historical landmarks including:

  • Aga Khan Palace, a monument of national importance where Mahatma Gandhi was once imprisoned.
  • Kasba Ganpati Temple, a cultural and spiritual center in Pune.
  • Lal Mahal, the childhood home of the great Maratha warrior Shivaji Maharaj.

Additionally, a visit is planned to the Bhimashankar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, located around 124 kilometers from Pune in the Western Ghats. The temple is nestled in a forested region, offering a blend of spiritual and natural beauty.

Aurangabad and the Ancient Marvels of Ajanta & Ellora

The tour will then proceed to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites:

  • The Ajanta Caves, known for their ancient Buddhist frescoes and sculptures.
  • The Ellora Caves, showcasing rock-cut temples of Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain heritage.

Tourists will also get a chance to visit the Grishneshwar Temple, another Jyotirlinga site, located close to the Ellora caves.
