Karnataka Government to Provide ₹5 Lakh Compensation for Death Caused by Dog Bite; ₹5,000 for Injuries

National Desk: In response to the rising cases of stray dog attacks in Karnataka, the Siddaramaiah-led state government has taken a major and significant decision. The government has announced that compensation will now be provided in cases of death or injury caused by dog bites.

₹5 Lakh Compensation in Case of Death

If a person dies due to an attack by a stray dog, the victim’s family will receive ₹5 lakh as compensation from the state government. Officials stated that many families, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds, struggle with medical expenses and the aftermath of such incidents. This financial assistance aims to support them during difficult times.

Compensation for Injuries as Well

The government has also made provisions for victims who suffer injuries due to dog bites.

If a person sustains injuries such as wounds on the skin, deep cuts, bruises, bleeding scratches, or multiple bite marks, they will receive ₹5,000 as compensation.

How the ₹5,000 Compensation Will Be Distributed

The government clarified that out of the ₹5,000 assistance:

  • ₹3,500 will be given directly to the injured person
  • ₹1,500 will be allocated to the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust to ensure the victim receives timely medical treatment

The aim is to make treatment immediate and affordable while reducing the financial burden on families in serious cases.

Why This Decision Was Taken

Several cities and towns in Karnataka have reported an increase in stray dog attacks, creating fear among residents. The government said this move has been implemented to ensure public safety, guarantee timely medical support for the injured, and provide financial relief to families in severe cases.
