New Delhi | A grand temple dedicated to Maa Sita is set to be built on 12 acres of land in Sitamarhi, Bihar, with growing support from saints and spiritual leaders across the country. During a major event held at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, organized under the Ra mayana Research Council, saints collectively expressed their strong desire that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should perform the Bhoomi Pujan (foundation-laying ceremony) for the upcoming Janaki Mandir.
Swami Avdheshanand Giri, head of Juna Akhara, stated that just as the Prime Minister performed the Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, it is only fitting that he should lay the foundation stone for the temple of Maa Sita, revered as the daughter of the soil.
Dream Taking Shape: From Appearance Site to Pilgrimage Destination
Renowned spiritual leader Swami Gyananand Maharaj shared that the dream of turning Sitamarhi, the birthplace of Maa Sita, into a major pilgrimage site is finally coming true. He thanked both the Bihar government and the central government for allocating the land for this sacred project.
He clarified that while the Prakatya Sthal (appearance site) of Maa Sita is at Punoura Dham, the new temple complex will come up about 4 kilometers away, at an ancient monastery already under the Bihar State Religious Trust Council. After years of effort by the Ramayana Research Council, the council has now officially granted permission to restore and develop the site.
Swami Gyananand also revealed plans for a 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Hanuman within the temple complex and emphasized that several other temples and monasteries in the area would also be restored and developed.
Massive Mobilization and Cultural Revival
Swami Balakanand Giri, a leading figure of the Anand Peeth, praised the Council’s efforts and said the land allocation marks a turning point. He committed that all saints would now reach out to the masses, especially women, and launch an awareness campaign for the temple.
Joining virtually, Swami Avdheshanand Giri stressed that just like in Ayodhya, where numerous temples and monasteries have been rejuvenated, Sitamarhi should also receive the same attention given its deep spiritual roots and ancient heritage.
From Parmarth Niketan, Swami Chidanand Saraswati highlighted the inspirational life of Maa Sita and said that this temple will be more than a structure—it will be a global center for her teachings.
Swami Chitprakashanand Giri of Niranjani Akhara called upon the entire global Sanatan Dharma community to support this sacred mission.
Support from Mithila, Ayodhya, and Beyond
Acharya Ramchandra Das shared that his guru, Jagadguru Swami Shri Ramabhadracharya Ji, has been working for years to see a temple built at Punoura Dham, the actual site of Sita’s divine appearance.
From Vrindavan, Swami Kishori Sharan Ji of Mithila Kunj Ashram appealed to Maithili people worldwide to join this spiritual movement. Similarly, Swami Jayaram Das Ji from Ayodhya’s Mithila Ashram said he was proud to contribute after having served in the construction of the Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Architectural Vision and Political Backing
Ashish Sompura, the architect behind the Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, was present at the event and shared preliminary concepts for the Sitamarhi temple. His vision aligns with a grand, culturally resonant design that will honor Maa Sita’s legacy.
Local MP Devesh Chandra Thakur expressed pride that under his tenure, efforts have intensified both at the state and national levels to transform Sitamarhi into a spiritual and cultural center.
Symbolism and Sacred Rituals Ahead
Kumar Sushant, General Secretary of the Ramayana Research Council, announced the initiation of a daily Bhumi Aarti (worship of the land) in Sitamarhi. He shared that the Council had long resolved to bring sacred soil and jyoti (sacred light) from 51 Shakti Peeths to consecrate Maa Sita in the form of Shri Bhagwati. That moment has now arrived
Prominent Attendees
The event saw the presence of many influential figures, including RSS senior leader Dr. Indresh Kumar, former Union Minister Ashwini Choubey, and several saints and intellectuals from India and abroad.
