National Desk: A major mishap was narrowly avoided on Tuesday at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, when two passenger aircraft were involved in a ground collision. Both planes were carrying passengers at the time of the incident; however, no injuries were reported.
The collision occurred between Air India flight AI 2732 (Mumbai–Coimbatore) and IndiGo flight 6E 791 (Hyderabad–Mumbai). The Air India aircraft was being pushed back from the parking bay ahead of departure, while the IndiGo aircraft, after landing from Hyderabad, was taxiing on the taxiway. During this movement, the wing tips of both aircraft came into contact.
Following the incident, both aircraft were immediately halted and grounded for inspection. The airlines informed airport authorities and the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and a formal investigation has been initiated. While the extent of damage to the aircraft and the exact number of passengers on board are yet to be confirmed, all passengers were safely deboarded.
Air India’s Statement
Air India said its flight AI 2732 was waiting on the taxiway for take-off clearance when it came into contact with another aircraft, resulting in damage to the wing tip. As a precaution, the aircraft has been grounded for technical inspection. All passengers were safely disembarked, and arrangements are being made to accommodate them on alternative flights. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience and reiterated that passenger safety remains its top priority.
IndiGo’s Statement
IndiGo also confirmed that the wing tip of its flight 6E 791 made contact with another aircraft during taxiing. All passengers are safe and have been deboarded. The aircraft is undergoing technical checks. The airline stated that, in line with procedures, all relevant authorities were immediately informed and the investigation is ongoing.
