National Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his greetings to the people of India on the occasion of Chhath Puja. The festival, dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, is celebrated across the country, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’, the Prime Minister wrote, “With the auspicious ritual of Nahay-Khay, the four-day grand festival of Chhath begins today. My heartfelt greetings to devotees across Bihar and the entire country. My salutations and respect to all those observing the fast.”
PM Modi also shared a devotional song by renowned singer Sharda Sinha, whose soulful music, he said, adds to the festive spirit of Chhath. Referring to his recent visit to Begusarai, a place closely associated with Sinha, Modi noted, “Our cultural celebration of Chhath symbolizes simplicity and discipline. The purity and devotion seen during this festival are unmatched. The scenes at the ghats during Chhath inspire remarkable family and social harmony.”
He further said, “The ancient tradition of Chhath has had a profound influence on our society. Today, Chhath is celebrated as a grand cultural festival across the world. Indian families living abroad also participate in its rituals with great devotion. May Chhathi Maiya bless everyone with happiness and prosperity.”
Describing the festival as a confluence of faith, devotion, and nature, the Prime Minister added, “During Chhath, devotees offer arghya to both the setting and rising Sun, while the prasad symbolizes the diverse colors of nature. The songs and melodies of Chhath reflect deep devotion and reverence for the natural world.”
Modi concluded, “It was my privilege to visit Begusarai yesterday. The ‘Nightingale of Bihar,’ Sharda Sinha, shares a special bond with this place. Through their songs, Sinha ji and many other folk artists from Bihar have given Chhath a unique emotional and cultural dimension.”
