National Desk: Every parent wishes for their child to grow up in a healthy and safe environment. During pregnancy, families often worry about the health and well-being of both the mother and the unborn child. Keeping these concerns in mind, the Central and State Governments have introduced several welfare schemes. One of the most important among them is the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
What Is the Objective of the Scheme?
Launched in 2017, the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana aims to provide financial assistance to pregnant and lactating women to support their nutritional and healthcare needs. The government encourages regular medical check-ups during pregnancy, safe delivery, and proper postnatal nutrition for both mother and child.
How Much Financial Assistance Is Provided?
Under the scheme:
- ₹5,000 is provided for the birth of the first child.
- First Installment (₹3,000): After pregnancy registration and completion of prescribed medical check-ups.
- Second Installment (₹2,000): After the birth of the child.
Additionally, if the second child is a girl, an extra ₹6,000 is provided as a one-time benefit.
In total, eligible women can receive financial assistance ranging from ₹6,000 to ₹11,000, depending on eligibility conditions.

To avail of the scheme, the following conditions must be met:
- The woman must be at least 19 years old.
- The family’s annual income should not exceed ₹8 lakh.
