National Desk: In the case of the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, prime accused Rajesh Khimji has made shocking revelations during police interrogation. The Delhi Police Special Cell, IB, and other intelligence agencies are jointly questioning him. The accused has been taken on a five-day police remand. Meanwhile, the CM’s security has been tightened, and she has now been provided CRPF Z-category security.
“Fight for Dogs Began After a Dream”
During interrogation, Rajesh described himself as a dog lover and revealed that he had once staged a hunger strike in Ayodhya for monkeys. He also participated in protests in Rajkot, Gujarat, in support of animal rights. Rajesh told police that he once dreamt of a Shivling (symbol of Lord Shiva) with a dog sitting on it. After this dream, he said, he began fighting for dogs’ rights.
Attack Took Place During Public Grievance Hearing
The attack occurred during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ (public hearing) at the CM’s camp office in Civil Lines. Around 8:15 a.m., a man approached her under the pretext of submitting documents and suddenly slapped the CM, pulled her hair, and tried to push her. The people present immediately caught hold of him and beat him up before handing him over to police.
Accused Hails from Gujarat
The accused has been identified as 41-year-old Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat. He works as an auto-rickshaw driver and has a criminal record. Between 2017 and 2024, five cases were registered against him – two for assault and three related to liquor smuggling. He was acquitted in four cases, while one case is still pending in court.
“My Son Loves Animals,” Says Mother
Speaking to the media, Rajesh’s mother, Bhanuben Sakariya, said her son has always loved animals deeply. She claimed that after the Supreme Court’s ruling on stray dogs, he went into mental distress and was also put on medication. However, he suddenly traveled to Delhi and assaulted the CM, causing injuries to her hand, shoulder, and head.
