Chandra Grahan 2025: Delhiites, Get Ready! Witness the Rare ‘Red Moon’ Tonight

New Delhi: If the weather remains clear, Delhiites will witness a spectacular celestial event tonight. Usually seen in shades of white or grey, the Moon will turn deep red on Sunday night due to the lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan 2025). The eclipse will begin at 8:58 PM and last until 2:25 AM, reaching its peak at 11:41 PM. This breathtaking phenomenon will grace the night sky for a total of 5 hours and 27 minutes.

Adding to the excitement, Nehru Planetarium at Chanakyapuri is hosting a special event titled “Grand Chandra Mela 2025.” The program will feature street plays, exhibitions, and discussions about lunar eclipses and other astronomical wonders. Students from Delhi University’s Kirori Mal College and Delhi Technological University (DTU) will also take part. Around 3,000 astronomy enthusiasts are expected to attend.

According to Prerna Chandra, Program Coordinator at Nehru Planetarium, the current spell of rain and cloudy skies may pose a challenge. However, if the skies clear up, people in Delhi will be able to witness this rare phenomenon with the naked eye.

To ensure no one misses out, the Planetarium has arranged a live broadcast on large screens as well as telescope viewing sessions. She added that although a lunar eclipse occurred in 2022, pollution prevented proper visibility. This time, with improving weather conditions, hopes are high for a clearer view.

Key Eclipse Timings:

  • Start of Lunar Eclipse: 8:58 PM
  • Peak Visibility (Red Moon): 11:41 PM
  • End of Eclipse: 2:25 AM
  • Total Duration: 5 hours 27 minutes

If skies stay clear, Delhi will experience a truly magical celestial night!
