Compassionate Action Is The Need of The Hour: Kailash Satyarthi

On 5th July, Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion (SMGC) hosted the Closing Ceremony of Satyarthi Summer School, a 30-day immersive residential program designed to inspire and equip 25 young change makers from 11 countries on compassionate leadership.

The world today is witnessing deepening conflict, inequality, and isolation. Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi believes in the urgent need to globalise compassion—to act with courage in the face of injustice. He defines compassion as “the force born out of feeling the suffering of others as our own, that drives mindful and selfless action to end that suffering.”

Satyarthi Summer School was born from this vision: to nurture young leaders committed to building a just, peaceful, and compassionate world.

The highlight of the closing ceremony was the announcement of Satyarthi Youth Network, a youth-led, global platform to champion compassionate action. All the 25 changemakers expressed that they would go back to their countries and work with their communities to drive change.

From 8 June to 5 July 2025, these outstanding young leaders from countries including Liberia, Mexico, Tajikistan, Palestine, USA had immersed themselves in grassroots communities, engaged with a world-class faculty, and embraced the principles of compassionate action to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The changemakers visited SMGC child-friendly communities in Delhi and Rajasthan – Bal Mitra Mandal and Bal Mitra Gram, and Banjara Education Centre, interacted with and listened to the inspiring stories of child leaders, participated in rallies, stayed at Bal Ashram and spent time with children who have been rescued from labour and exploitation and understood what true compassionate action means. Through hours of brainstorming, they dived into real-world challenges using the Satyarthi Compassion Quotient™ (SCQ) framework.

Asmita Satyarthi, CEO of SMGC, said “My heart is filled with pride at these 25 young trailblazers from 11 countries – the first class of the Satyarthi Summer School! At the closing ceremony in Delhi, surrounded by leaders from all walks of life, they launched something extraordinary: the Satyarthi Youth Network — a youth-led, global platform to champion compassionate action. They brought everything they learned – strategic planning, systems thinking, and grassroots experience – into a real-word roadmap. Which is ambitious yet practical.”

Nobel Peace Laureate and Founder of SMGC, Kailash Satyarthi said, “At the closing of Satyarthi Summer School, 25 young leaders from 11 countries surprised me by launching the Satyarthi Youth Network. They have created a roadmap, defined roles, and made a life-long commitment to our vision of globalising compassion. I feel confident that the world is in compassionate, determined hands.”
