National Desk: There is disappointing news for alcohol consumers in the national capital. After the New Year celebrations, the Delhi Excise Department has released the list of Dry Days for January 2026. During this month, liquor sale will remain completely prohibited on three days across Delhi.

On these dates, all liquor vends, bars, clubs, and restaurants in the city will remain shut for alcohol service.

Why Are Dry Days Observed?

In Delhi, Dry Days are usually declared on national holidays, religious festivals, or death anniversaries of eminent leaders. The objective is to maintain the sanctity of these occasions and ensure law and order across the city.

These 3 Days Liquor Shops Will Remain Closed

1. January 14, 2026 (Wednesday) – Makar Sankranti
Makar Sankranti, a major harvest festival, is celebrated with great enthusiasm across North India. Kite flying and traditional festivities mark the day in Delhi. As per excise rules, January 14 will be observed as a Dry Day in the capital.

2. January 26, 2026 (Monday) – Republic Day
Republic Day, one of India’s most important national festivals, is a mandatory Dry Day. A grand parade is held at Kartavya Path in Delhi. Keeping security and national pride in mind, liquor sale remains completely banned across the city.

3. January 30, 2026 (Friday) – Martyrs’ Day (Shaheed Diwas)
January 30 marks the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, observed as Martyrs’ Day. To pay tribute to Gandhiji and freedom fighters, the Delhi government declares a Dry Day on this date.

Will Bars and Restaurants Be Open?

During Dry Days, all liquor shops operating under L-6 and L-7 licenses remain closed. Alcohol service is also prohibited in hotels, clubs, and restaurants (HCR category).
While some premium hotels may allow limited service to in-house guests inside their rooms, public bars and serving areas remain completely shut.
