Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, highlighting the vast potential of Indian content in driving an economic renaissance. Addressing a global audience of over 10,000 delegates, including 1,000 creators, 300 companies, and 350 startups, Modi emphasized India’s growing role as a global storytelling powerhouse. He noted that WAVES has brought together artists, innovators, investors, and policymakers from over 100 countries, creating a foundation for a global creative ecosystem.
Describing WAVES as more than just an acronym, Modi said it represents a powerful movement in films, music, gaming, animation, and storytelling. The summit’s debut has already captured worldwide attention, with promises of more such “waves” in the future. As India rises to become the world’s third-largest economy, Modi asserted that this is the beginning of India’s “orange economy,” driven by content, creativity, and culture.
He stressed that in an age dominated by AI and automation, human imagination, sensitivity, and cultural expression are what truly define us. Modi also announced the launch of the WAVES Awards, positioning them as the world’s premier recognition for excellence in creativity and storytelling, to be established as the most prestigious honors in the global arts and entertainment industry.
