Greater Noida: A test flight successfully landed at the Noida International Airport (NIA) on Friday, marking a major milestone in the airport’s final inspection phase. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducted the test flight after weather conditions improved. Earlier, the test landing scheduled for October 30 had to be postponed due to poor visibility. With this successful landing, the airport’s calibration process is expected to be completed soon.
Poor Visibility Delayed Test Flight Earlier
The test flight was originally planned for Thursday, but due to low visibility at the Noida International Airport runway, it was canceled at the last moment. The aircraft was supposed to take off from Delhi and land at the new airport in Jewar, Greater Noida.
Although the DGCA team had made all necessary preparations for the trial, poor weather conditions forced officials to defer the operation to ensure safety.
Final Phase of Safety and Calibration Checks
The Noida International Airport is currently undergoing final testing and safety inspections before the commencement of regular flight operations. DGCA teams have been working over the past few days to calibrate and test the airport’s navigation systems, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and communication equipment to ensure they meet all safety and performance standards.
Thursday was considered a crucial day in this process, as the trial included takeoff and landing operations to verify the accuracy of the navigation systems. However, due to low visibility, the test was postponed and successfully carried out on Friday once weather conditions improved.
Next Step: Aerodrome License Approval
Officials stated that the test flight and calibration checks are critical for the DGCA’s final review. Only after successful completion of these tests will the Aerodrome License be issued to the airport, allowing commercial operations to begin.
Earlier, Union Civil Aviation Minister had announced the inauguration of the airport on October 30, but due to incomplete work, the event was postponed. Authorities have now been directed to complete all remaining work by November 15.
With the successful test flight, Noida International Airport — one of India’s most anticipated aviation projects — has moved a step closer to becoming operational, strengthening air connectivity for the National Capital Region (NCR) and beyond.
