Kabaddi League: Former Captain of India Announces Retirement, Played His Last Match in Australia

Former captain of the Indian team and Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) legend, Ajay Thakur, has announced his retirement from international kabaddi. He shared this news with his fans after playing in the PKL Melbourne event held in Australia.

In the PKL Melbourne Raid, Ajay Thakur was part of the PKL All-Stars Mavericks and the PKL All-Star Team. Both teams won their respective matches. He later informed his followers on social media that the match played on December 28 was his final international match. Thakur ended his illustrious career with two magnificent wins.

It is worth noting that under Ajay Thakur’s captaincy, the Indian kabaddi team won the 2018 Kabaddi Masters Dubai. Additionally, in 2016, when India won the Kabaddi World Cup, Ajay Thakur played a crucial role, especially in the final, where his remarkable performance helped the team secure the victory. For his contributions, Ajay has been honored with the Padma Shri and Arjuna Award.

Ajay Thakur’s Impressive Performance in Pro Kabaddi League

Ajay Thakur not only excelled with the Indian kabaddi team but also made a significant impact in the Pro Kabaddi League. He played from the first season until the ninth season, representing teams such as Bengaluru Bulls, Puneri Paltan, Tamil Thalaivas, and Dabang Delhi K.C.

In his PKL career, Ajay Thakur played 121 matches, scoring a total of 816 points. He earned 794 points through raiding and 22 points via tackles. He also achieved 29 Super 10s and 23 Super Raids. His last appearance in the PKL was with Dabang Delhi K.C., but he had to leave mid-tournament due to an injury.

In the recently concluded Pro Kabaddi League 2024, Ajay Thakur was seen in a coaching role. Puneeri Paltan made a significant mid-season change, appointing him as an assistant coach. However, his team did not qualify for the playoffs.
