Teacher Workshop Held at DPMI Ahead of Garhwali and Kumaoni Summer Language Classes

New Delhi: Like every year, this year too, the Uttarakhand Lok Bhasha Sahitya Manch is offering an opportunity to learn regional languages through Garhwali and Kumaoni summer classes in Delhi-NCR. As part of the first phase, a teachers’ workshop was organized on Sunday at the DPMI auditorium in New Ashok Nagar, where training was given on conducting and teaching the classes. The convenor of the Uttarakhand Lok Bhasha Sahitya Manch is Dinesh Dhyani and the patron is Vinod Bacheti.

Dinesh Dhyani stated that the summer language classes will run from May 11 to August 10. Last year, there were 34 centers for these classes, which have increased to over 45 this year. Besides Delhi, classes will also be conducted in NCR regions such as Faridabad, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and even outside Delhi in Dehradun and Srinagar (Garhwal).

Interestingly, this year, classes will also be conducted every Sunday in five cities in England with the support of M.S. Negi. Dhyani further mentioned that Kumaoni classes will also be held in Almora, Uttarakhand this year, with the support of teacher Kripal Singh Sheela.

Anyone interested in learning Garhwali or Kumaoni is welcome to attend these classes, as there is no age restriction. Dhyani shared that in past years, even children from Odisha and Bihar have come to learn these languages. Similarly, students pursuing PhDs in Srinagar, Uttarakhand, who are not originally from the region, have also shown interest in learning Garhwali.

The Manch has a structured curriculum for both Garhwali and Kumaoni, and the instructors are experienced language experts and literary figures. Individuals like Jaipal Singh Rawat, Ramesh Chandra Ghildiyal Saras, Anil Kumar Pant, Darshan Singh Rawat, Rekha Chauhan, and Dayal Negi are playing a significant role in organizing these classes.Dayal Singh Negi, manager of the Summer Classes Committee, informed that these classes are free of cost. Not only are bags, notebooks, and pens provided, but refreshments are also arranged by the respective centers.
