Grand Rudrabhishek performed at Parmarth ashram, Haridwar on Mahashivratri

Maharshi Keshwanand from Netherlands worshipped Lord Shiva for 10 hours continuously

Haridwar: Mahashivratri festival was celebrated at Parmarth ashram, saptarishi ghat in the holy city of Uttarakhand at the bank of Ganga. The festival of Lord Shiva was organised at a very grand scale similar to every year. Maharshi Keshwanand from Netherlands performed an elaborate pooja on the occasion of Mahashivratri. Maharshi Keshwanand is the president of International Adi Shankaracharya Research and Awareness Foundation. He started the holy ritual of Rudrabhishek with Vedic mantras and Rudri path at 7 pm on Wednesday, February 26 and performed puja till 5 am. Expressing his thoughts about mahashivratri, Maharshi Keshwanand said that this is not just a festival but a celebration of lord Shiva’s Shakti because she donated everything to save the world. He further added that this pious festival has the essence of harmony and victory. That’s why we must take inspiration to derive goodness, positivity and peace out of this festival. He also said that 1400 kg fresh flowers, 201 kg pure desi ghee, 501 litre cow milk, 501 leaves of belpatra, dhatura and bhaang, 201 kg curd, 101 kg pure honey, 101 kg basmati rice and 101 kg sugar had been used to perform mahashivratri rudrabhishk. Along with this 51 kg seasonal fruits, 51 kg pure rose water, 201 kg prasad and 51 new pairs of clothes were also distributed among priests. On this special occasion 12 shivlingas of 3 feet each had been made with the sand of holy Ganga and every shivlinga was decorated with beautiful flowers of rose, merigold and orchids meticulously. Among all of these, the shivlinga ornated with lord Shiva’s favourite rudraksha beeds became the centre of attraction. Many other scholar priests participated in this holy event along with more than 2 hundred devotees.
