National Desk: Air travelers flying from Delhi to Kolkata are facing a major shock as flight ticket prices have surged dramatically amid the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections. Fares have reportedly increased by up to six times.
Typically, a one-way ticket from Delhi to Kolkata costs between ₹5,000 and ₹7,000. However, due to election-related travel demand, prices have skyrocketed.
Current Fare Trends
Non-stop flight tickets are now being sold in the range of ₹32,000 to ₹36,000. For April 24, fares are expected to remain between ₹13,000 and ₹32,000. With the second phase of voting scheduled for April 29, ticket prices for April 28 have already crossed ₹15,000.
Reason Behind the Price Hike
A large number of voters from West Bengal, currently residing in the Delhi-NCR region, are traveling back to their hometowns to cast their votes. Last-minute bookings and high demand have triggered airlines’ dynamic pricing systems, leading to a sharp rise in ticket prices.
