National Desk: With just two days to go before Republic Day, final preparations for the parade are in full swing in Delhi. As part of these arrangements, a full-dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade will be held on Friday, January 24, from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. Due to this, traffic restrictions will be enforced on several key routes in central Delhi. Delhi Traffic Police have urged commuters to follow the advisory and use alternative routes.
Traffic Restrictions on These Routes
According to Delhi Police, general traffic will be completely restricted between Vijay Chowk, Kartavya Path, and India Gate during the rehearsal. In addition, cross traffic towards Kartavya Path from Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Manekshaw Road will be affected between 10:15 am and 12:30 pm.
Use Alternative Routes
Commuters have been advised to take alternative roads such as Mother Teresa Crescent Road, Sikandra Road, Firoz Shah Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, and Motilal Nehru Marg to avoid congestion and delays.
Updates via Social Media and Helpline
Delhi Traffic Police stated that real-time traffic updates will be shared through their official social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and through helpline numbers. Citizens are advised to check the latest updates before stepping out.
Prefer Metro Services
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has encouraged commuters to use metro services to avoid traffic congestion and security-related delays. However, on January 26, during the Republic Day parade, entry and exit at certain metro stations—such as ITO, Central Secretariat, and Lal Qila—will remain temporarily closed. These stations will reopen after the conclusion of the parade.
Appeal for Vigilance
In view of the Republic Day celebrations, police have appealed to citizens to remain alert. People are requested to immediately inform the nearest police personnel if they notice any suspicious object or individual. Authorities emphasized that public vigilance plays a crucial role in ensuring national security.
