New Delhi, August 31: The sacred Bhoomi Pujan ceremony was performed with full Vedic rituals on Saturday, marking the commencement of preparations for the 12th “Prabhu Shri Ram Leela Mahotsav-2025”, one of East Delhi’s most prominent cultural celebrations. The annual production is staged under the aegis of Samriddh Bharat Trust and organized by the Kamdhenu Ramleela Samiti.
Since its inception in 2014, the Samiti has hosted the Ramleela at Rasvihār Ground, West Vinod Nagar, earning a reputation as one of the capital’s most distinguished festive attractions.
Present on the occasion were Committee Chairman Dr. Kuldeep Bhandari, President Mohini Sharma, and General Secretary Ambadatt Purohit.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Bhandari emphasized the cultural significance of the event, noting that the production has consistently set itself apart through its unique artistic style. “This Ramleela is cherished for blending traditional Bhimtaali and Radheshyam styles from Uttarakhand with contemporary stagecraft. Under the direction of Subhash Bhatt and the music of Ankit Bhandari, the performance combines folk poetry from Brij and Bhojpuri dialects, dialogues in Awadhi, and the expertise of seasoned theatre and cinema actors, making it both devotional and dramatic,” he said.
The Bhoomi Pujan also marked the beginning of spiritual discipline for all participating artists. As part of tradition, performers were tied with sacred Kalawa threads, symbolizing their vow to observe strict religious conduct until the Mahotsav concludes. This includes abstinence from non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and indulgences, along with maintaining celibacy and sleeping on the ground. The rituals included havan, mantra chanting, flag hoisting, and sanctification of the stage area.
The ceremony saw the participation of several well-known personalities and long-time contributors to the Ramleela. Veteran actor Jagmohan Singh Bugana, who has been essaying the roles of Ravan and King Dashrath for years, was present along with Pushpa Joshi, a theatre and film artist who plays Kaikeyi and Mandodari. Other notable attendees included M.S. Rawat, Mukesh Thakur, Hemant Papanai, Hayat Rana, Puran Devtalla, Ashu Nautiyal, Ganesh Pandey, Jitu Bisht, and several members of the artistic fraternity such as Ashwin Sharma, Nitin Gusain, and Sangeeta Suyal.
With the Bhoomi Pujan complete, the stage is now set for what promises to be a grand and spiritually enriching Ramleela Mahotsav 2025.
