Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has been fined for keeping slow over-rate while playing their IPL match against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday. IPL released a statement stating that since this was the first such offense by Mumbai Indians this season according to Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate breaches, Pandya has been fined Rs 12 lakhs.
The match saw Mumbai Indians suffer their second defeat of the season, as Gujarat Titans secured a dominant 36-run victory in Match 9 of IPL 2025. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj played a crucial role in Gujarat’s win, delivering exceptional bowling performances that restricted Mumbai’s batting lineup.
Though they had a robust lineup, Mumbai was unable to chase the target Gujarat had established for them, and their batting order could not make any large-sized partnerships. Titans’ bowlers’ discipline was such that they kept Mumbai on their toes for most of their innings.
This loss comes on top of Mumbai Indians’ initial woes in the tournament, and there are questions being raised about their consistency and performance. Pandya, who is new as captain of Mumbai this season, now has extra pressure to deliver his team better in the remaining matches.
Being so early in the IPL season, Mumbai will have to re-unite fast and correct their vulnerabilities, especially maintaining the over-rate and improving the overall game for avoiding further losses and penalties.
