PM Modi, Tulsi Gabbard Discuss Strengthening India-US Security Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in New Delhi on Monday. During their meeting, PM Modi presented Gabbard with a unique gift—a vase containing Gangajal, sacred water collected from the recently concluded Mahakumbh. In return, Gabbard gifted PM Modi a traditional ‘tulsi’ mala, symbolizing spiritual and cultural ties.

The meeting came after Gabbard’s previous interaction with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the capital. They had discussed the activities of the outlawed Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), especially its anti-India activities and influence on American soil. Both sides shared concern over the group’s destabilizing agenda and expressed their intention to enhance cooperation against terrorism and extremist threats.

During an interview with ANI earlier in the day, Gabbard touched on sensitive issues, such as speculation regarding the involvement of Deep State players and allegations of US intelligence interference in efforts to sway political results in India. Gabbard categorically denied these allegations, asserting that, to her knowledge, no such interference by US intelligence agencies had occurred.

During her official visit, Gabbard also involved herself in several high-level interactions with a view to enhancing India-US security ties. She attended a pivotal conclave hosted by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The conclave had representatives of intelligence and security agencies from about 20 nations and centered on strengthening multilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and issues of regional security.
