In the Women’s Premier League on Monday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals had an enthralling contest. Having lost the toss, Delhi Capitals got to bat and posted 142 runs on the board against Bangalore. RCB chased down the target comfortably and won in the 17th over. RCB captain Smriti Mandhana scored an incredible 81 runs from the front to lead her side to their second tournament win.
RCB bowling attack was led by Renuka Singh and leg-spinner Georgia Wareham, both getting three wickets each. Renuka’s bowing figures were 3 for 23, with Georgia taking 3 for 25. Kim Garth (2 for 19) and Ekta Bisht (2 for 35) also chipped in with two wickets apiece, dismissing Delhi for 142 in 19.3 overs.
For Delhi Capitals, Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer with 34 runs, while only Sarah Bryce (23) managed to cross the 20-run mark. Delhi’s innings started poorly, losing Shafali Verma on just the second ball, as she gave a simple catch to Smriti Mandhana off Renuka’s delivery at mid-off.
Chasing 142, RCB dominated with Smriti Mandhana’s explosive 81 off 47 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and 3 sixes, at a strike rate of 172. Danielle Wyatt supported with a solid 42-run knock, and their partnership effectively sealed Delhi’s fate. Richa Ghosh (11 not out) and Ellyse Perry (7 not out) finished the job, ensuring an easy win for RCB.
