New Delhi: Congress MP Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the new party headquarters in Delhi. Along with her, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi were also present. The old headquarters of Congress was located at 24 Akbar Road in the Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone. However, the new headquarters of Congress now has the address 9-A, Indira Gandhi Bhavan, Kotla Marg. The foundation stone of the new building was laid by Sonia Gandhi on December 28, 2009.
For 47 years, the address of Congress in Delhi was 24 Akbar Road in the Lutyens’ Zone. However, Congress has clarified that it will not vacate 24 Akbar Road.
Indira Bhavan has been designed keeping in mind the growing needs of the party and its leaders. It includes modern facilities to assist in administrative, organizational, and political work. On the ground floor, there is a high-tech press conference room, a reception, and a luxurious canteen. The headquarters also has small soundproof chambers for TV debates. Notably, the building has an auditorium and separate rooms for various departments.
