Eid ul-Fitr, the celebration for the end of the holy month of Ramadan, is a time of great rejoice for millions of Muslims across the globe. This year, 2025, Eid will most likely be on March 30 or 31 in India based on the appearance of the moon. The holiday marks the completion of a one-month spiritual voyage of fasting, prayers, and introspection.
For most people, Eid is an occasion of meeting and gathering with family and friends, with individuals going to their hometowns to share the celebrations. The environment is alive with happiness, appreciation, and the philosophy of generosity. The streets are lined with bright decorations, sparkling lights, and the air of celebratory spirit that unites communities. Bazaars are alive with last-minute shopping as individuals purchase new attire, gifts, and tasty goodies to share.
Special prayers are conducted at mosques and open spaces on Eid morning, where people congregate in huge numbers. The practice of offering Zakat ul-Fitr, a charity, makes it possible for the poor to also enjoy the festivities. Friends and family members greet each other with warm “Eid Mubarak” wishes, hugging one another with love and affection.
There is a subsequent feast, in which the age-old delicacies like biryani, seviyan, and sheer khurma are prepared and consumed. The day remains busy visiting kin, giving presents, and dispelling gloom. With the advent of Eid, India can look forward to a grand extravaganza characterized by warmth, harmony, and piety.
