From “Razia Sultan” to “Sarfarosh”: The Timeless Journey of Nida Fazli… “Main Nida”

New Delhi, April 26:A special screening of the film “Main Nida,” based on the life of the renowned Urdu and Hindi poet and deeply sensitive soul, Padma Shri Muqtada Hasan Nida Fazli, was held on Saturday at the NFDC Auditorium on Mahadev Road, New Delhi. The film, a remarkable presentation by the celebrated duo Atul Pandey and Atul Gangwar, left a profound impact on the audience.

“Main Nida” is a journey that builds a sensitive bridge between the streets of Delhi, the memories of Gwalior, the literary movements of Mumbai, and the radiant world of poetry in Hindustan. The film beautifully portrays Nida Fazli’s personal struggles, creative restlessness, and his deep faith in humanity.

From his childhood in Gwalior to his eventual establishment in Mumbai, and the influence of saint-poets like Surdas, Kabir, and Tulsidas on his poetry—every aspect has been brought to life on screen with great respect and sensitivity by the team led by Atul Pandey and Atul Gangwar.

One of the film’s highlights is the inclusion of memories shared by many distinguished writers, artists, and musicians who were closely associated with Nida Fazli. Personalities like Talat Aziz, Sudhir Mishra, Anant Vijay, Atul Tiwari, Shaan, Kuldeep Singh, Ashwini Chaudhary, Madan Mohan, Atul Ajnabi, Amit Rai, and Prashant Sisodia reminisced about their moments with Nida Fazli and unveiled lesser-known facets of his creative energy. His wife, Malti Joshi Fazli, also shared intimate memories, adding even greater depth and emotion to the narrative.

The film also highlights Nida Fazli’s cinematic journey — revisiting immortal songs from films like “Razia Sultan” and “Sarfarosh.” Songs like “Hosh Waalon Ko Khabar Kya” and “Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukammal Jahan Nahin Milta” are portrayed with a deep sensitivity, uncovering the raw emotions behind these timeless creations.

Nida Fazli was a rare voice in Urdu and Hindi poetry who broke traditional boundaries to express the voice of the common man. His language was simple yet flowing, filled with profound feelings. Drawing from the traditions of saint-poets like Kabir and Surdas, he introduced them into the modern context, establishing a new benchmark for poetry centered around humanity. His works—”Deewaron Ke Beech,” “Mulaqatein,” “Khamoshiyan Bolti Hain,” and “Aandhiyon Ke Beech”—continue to be read and revered among literature enthusiasts.

For his literary contributions, Nida Fazli received numerous awards and honors, most notably the Padma Shri awarded by the Government of India in 2013. He was also honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Meera Smriti Award, and several international accolades.

His writings fostered a cultural dialogue between India and Pakistan, acting as a bridge between different religions and cultures. “Main Nida” stands as a beautiful endeavor to carry forward the legacy of this great soul to future generations.

The greatest achievement of Atul Pandey and Atul Gangwar lies in their honest and heartfelt portrayal of Nida Fazli — free from any dramatization or artificial embellishments. They have not only captured his words but have brought his spirit and philosophy alive on screen.

“Main Nida” is a priceless treasure for anyone seeking meaning in life, for those who love poetry, and for all who wish to hear the true voice of humanity. Atul Pandey, Atul Gangwar, and their entire team deserve heartfelt congratulations for beautifully capturing this vast ocean of words and emotions on screen.

Writer, filmmaker, and documentary maker Atul Gangwar played a crucial role in conceptualizing and producing this film, while Atul Pandey, with his seasoned direction, infused life and soul into it. Together, they have painted a vivid portrait of Nida Fazli’s life, thoughts, and artistry that immerses the viewer in a deep ocean of emotions.

Atul Gangwar shared an 18-year-long association with Nida Fazli. Nida Sahab actively participated in several projects produced by Gangwar, including “Adabi Cocktail,” “Urdu Bazaar,” “Ghazalnama,” and “Suno Tum.” “Main Nida” is a natural outcome of this profound relationship and sensitivity.

Atul Pandey’s direction is also being widely praised. His maturity, sensitivity, and artistic finesse in research, storyboarding, and visual narration are exceptional. His directorial vision lends the film a rare intimacy and flow, connecting viewers directly to Nida Fazli’s heart and mind.

“Main Nida” is not just a documentary—it is a living testament to Nida Fazli’s words and emotions. Together, Atul Pandey and Atul Gangwar have crafted a masterpiece that touches hearts, moistens eyes, and brings the most beautiful aspects of humanity to life. This film stands as a true, beautiful, and timeless tribute to Nida Fazli.
