Yeshu Yeshu Prophet Bajinder Singh Sentenced to Life for 2018 Rape Case in Mohali

A Mohali court sentenced Pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment on Tuesday for his role in a 2018 rape case. The ruling came after last week’s conviction when Singh was found guilty of the offence. The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Vikrant Kumar.

The 42-year-old Singh, who is also referred to as the “Yeshu Yeshu prophet,” was found guilty on March 28 under Section 376 (rape), 323 (voluntary hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Singh was being held in Patiala jail. A woman had filed a case against him in 2018 at the Zirakpur police station in Mohali. The woman alleged that he had lured her with offers of sending her abroad, whereupon she was sexually assaulted by him.

Reacting to the judgment, the victim pleaded for her safety, saying, “He (Bajinder) is a psycho and will likely reoffend after his release. I want him to remain in prison.” She further added that several other victims have been given justice, appealing to the Director General of Police (DGP) for ensuring her safety, as she fears being attacked by his supporters.

The case has created huge publicity, as Singh was a prominent religious leader with a huge following. The judgment is a major triumph for the victim and serves as a huge warning to such perpetrators of serious offenses, reflecting the huge responsibility and severity of such acts.
